Opened case with Cisco and inform me it isn’t important to write it and it will be still counted .

so don’t worry when you are not able to save config ….. Good Luck .

I will recant the active/active FW and agree on the VRRP

In which scenario can asymmetric routing occur?

    D. Redundant routers running VRRP

Answer: D. Redundant routers running VRRP

On the EVN I hold fast to (A. It tags traffic with an 802.1q at the edge interface)

The VNET tag is a global value and thus VNs on each EVN device should be provisioned with the same tag value. The valid tag value range is from 2 to 4094. EVN is supported on any interface that supports 802.1q encapsulation, for example, an Ethernet interface. Instead of adding a new field to carry the VNET tag in a packet, the VLAN ID field in 802.1q is repurposed to carry a VNET tag. The VNET tag uses the same position in the packet as a VLAN ID. On a trunk interface, the packet gets re-encapsulated with a VNET tag. Untagged packets carrying the VLAN ID are not EVN packets and could be transported over the same trunk interfaces.

  23. Mar22
    November 27th, 2017

But the traffic is tagged on the trunk interface not the edge one.
As specified by Cisco, the traffic over the edge interface is untagged.

    https://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios-xml/ios/evn/configuration/15-1sg/evn-overview.html

An edge interface connects a user device to the EVN and in effect defines the boundary of the EVN. Edge interfaces connect end devices such as hosts and servers that are not VRF-aware. Traffic carried over the edge interface is untagged. The edge interface classifies which EVN the received traffic belongs to. Each edge interface is configured to belong to only one EVN.

An EVN trunk interface connects VRF-aware routers together and provides the core with a means to transport traffic for multiple EVNs. Trunk interfaces carry tagged traffic. The tag is used to de-multiplex the packet into the corresponding EVN. A trunk interface has one subinterface for each EVN. An interface is defined as an EVN trunk interface by the vnet trunk command.

@NICK – Could U be more specific that what you think went wrong?

@Sofino – Maybe you messed something up in labs? Some different number mismatch or something? Sometimes, as far as I understand, you have to use “show” commands so that it counts as part of the troubleshoot / verification. Not sure but maybe that’s the thing you missed.

You are talking the VNET tagging and 802.1q tagging. 802.1 is on The edge and VNET tagging is on the trunk interface.

@Anonymous: yes, but then there are two possible options, as Traffic is tagged with 802.1q on the edge and it is also tagged with vnet on the trunk… maybe I’m not understading the question really well.. it’s a bit confusing.

How does an EVN provide end-to-end virtualization ?

Answer: C – it tags traffic with a virtual network tag at the edge interface

    Refer below:

    Traffic Separation in EVN

Path isolation can be achieved by using a unique tag for each VN. This tag is called the VNET tag. Each VN carries over a virtual network the same tag value that was assigned by a network administrator. An EVN device in the virtual path uses the tags to provide traffic separation among different VNs. This removes the dependency on physical/logical interfaces to provide traffic separation. As illustrated in Figure 2, only a single trunk interface is required to connect a pair of EVN devices. A trunk interface provides connectivity between a pair of EVN devices and transports multiple VN traffic, whereas edge interfaces connect to specific VN users. An edge interface is mapped to a specific VN and is the point in the network where the VNET tag is applied to incoming traffic from VN users. Traffic traversing from an EVN device to VN users is untagged. Midpoint EVN devices do not remove, add, or swap tags.

  35. Asymmetric Routing
    November 27th, 2017

Designs Options for Support of Asymmetric Routing in Firewalls

    1. Symmetric routing flow through the firewall

Keep the traffic flow symmetric through the firewall infrastructure. Here, the packet flow from one security domain to another will be through a single firewall. Redundancy for the flow is achieved via firewall redundancy (failover configuration).

    2. Support of the Asymmetric routing feature

The Asymmetric routing (ASR) feature is supported in both the FWSM 3.x and ASA 7.x code releases, and can be leveraged in the firewalls in active/standby and active/active modes. This feature aligns the firewalls with the Layer-3 network to avoid asymmetric routing issues.

    November 28th, 2017

@Scammers be gone! I recanted due to the fact that most Active/Active FW scenarios have session infinity. Plus after reviewing the question more “In which scenario can asymmetric routing occur?” It can occur when my VIP for VRRP is active on one interface but the return traffic arrives on the other interface.

Hello everyone, curious about this one here…

How does an EVN provide end-to-end virtualization
    a. It tags traffic with an 802.1q at the edge interface
    b. it tags traffic with an 802.1q at the trunk interface
    c. it tags traffic with a virtual network tag at the edge interface
    d. it tags traffic with a virtual network tag at the trunk interface
    Answer : ???

Proposed answer was A BUT according to this edge interfaces dont tag traffic. Please provide reference for justification
